Progressive Architecture in Denmark

8 Tallet: Green-Roofed Eco Village in Denmark

8 Tallet is a progressive apartment complex just outside central Copenhagen. The idea is to localize services for the residents so that they can eat, send their kids to day care, etc. all in one place. At the same time the building is extremely eco friendly. It features a green roof made of grass, solar panels and is oriented to make the most of daylight so that each living unit has ample lighting. The building is made up of 476 apartments, some with private gardens and balconies and the ground floor features a large commercial square. The building is designed by internationally known architect, Bjarke Ingels.

VM House

The VM house won the award for Best Building in Scandinavia in 2006 and is also designed by Bjarke Ingels. It is another apartment building in the same district as 8 Tallet and is called the VM House because when you look at it from above it looks like a V and an M together.
